End of life matters

You are here: Home / Explore our work / End of life matters

Faith communities are involved in end of life matters from encouraging individuals to plan in the event of death both practical matters but also their spiritual needs.  The aim is to help families in the event of a death to feel secure that practical issues have been attended to and that they know what their family member or friend wishes in relation to their care towards the end of life and what their wishes for a funeral might be.

FiOP works closely with the Scottish Partnership on Palliative Care which provides excellent information on these issues as well as examples of innovative and compassionate practice in different parts of Scotland.  These were the subject of an excellent seminar in which we heard about Good Life; Good Death; Good Grief; To Absent Friends and the development of compassionate communities which include North Berwick Compassionate Community and Compassionate Inverclyde.

FiOP undertook the training to facilitate the End-of-Life Skills for Everyone course and we ran the first one in June 2022 in collaboration with North Berwick Compassionate Community.  We will offer this excellent four session course on a regular basis in the future.

In addition, FiOP has also provided training and support to clergy on these issues

The challenge for older people is to make sense of life at a stage when loss and change occur more frequently and perhaps more painfully.
